August 16 – Visitors from Germany

Hello from 1066 – Medieval Mosaic

In the afternoon a young German couple came into see the mosaic. They were really impressed especially by the new panels researched and made by Michael and Rachael. As I talked to them it transpired that they are reenactors and are going to the reenactment of Battle of Boswell Field next week. Urs has been reenacting for years starting with Viking times but now is mostly involved with 15th-century. As Urs is from Germany I asked if he geocaches and he does but not fanatically like us. He has some great stories about elaborate caches that they have done. I showed him the picture of Mike climbing under the bridge the other day. Then we got onto games and they are really into playing board games and know all the games we play. They told us about a particularly interesting game called Time Stories which we might look into. Also, they said that if we get to Germany we should go to the Essen Games Convention which is on from 26 – 29 October 2017. Well, you never know!!    Urs and Susanne are also re-enactors too and are heading to the Battle of Bosworth Field for the reenactment. The Battle took place on 22 August 1485 near Ambion Hill, south of Bosworth, Leicestershire.

In the evening we moved to our new house sit in Leafield looking after 5 chickens and a  goldfish. It is a big house which used to be 2 cottages with a big garden. We will be very comfortable there. They are into board games so may catch up on some different games while we are there. We found a game called The Great Game of Britain which is like Ticket to Ride but does not play very well. The board is too small for the playing pieces. It wasn’t bad but we would not play it again.
