July 5 – Another day at St Albans Cathedral

Nave altar frontal and flowers

Hello from 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic

Every Friday a team of ladies descend on the cathedral to do all the flower arrangements around the cathedral. The flowers are brought at the markets early on Thursday morning and the put into vases of water to recover overnight. On Friday morning the ladies bring their own greenery and some of their own flowers to complete the arrangements. The purchased flowers are for the main arrangements around the altars and then the extra flowers are used for all the niches around the cathedral. I love Fridays for all the wonderful arrangements!

Also, weddings take place on Saturdays in the Ladies chapel and so there are often extra arrangements done for the ends of the pews etc which are all colour coordinated and paid for by the happy couple.
