May 26 – A wedding at Wells Cathedral

Hello from 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic

Yesterday the church florists were adorning the cathedral with wonderful flower arrangements for the wedding to be held in the quire today. The cathedral was not too busy early in the day but at 1 pm the nave closed so the wedding could take place so a lot more people came to the south cloister. After the wedding was finished the bells started peeling so I went out to the cathedral green. There were lots of people out there sitting in the sun on a beautiful day waiting for the bride and groom to come out of the church. At the entrance of the cathedral was a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce. The bells peeled three times and made a wonderful sound until finally the bride and groom appeared. They had been having afternoon tea in the East Cloister with their guests. At the car, the happy pair posed for photos from the crowd and then entered the car where the chauffeur opened a bottle of champagne for them.

It was a beautiful day just perfect for a wedding. The reception was held at the Bishop’s Palace.
