October 30 – A short walk into Warminster

A quick look at St Lawrence Chapel

Hello from 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic

We didn’t go out much today as it was quite chilly so we spent time working on our blogs, photos and the website while I also watched season 5 of ‘Call the Midwife’ on our nice big TV.

Later in the afternoon we walked into town by the longer route and went to visit St Lawrence’s Chapel. It was great to see the blanket of red poppies from roof to ground on the church and to see the purple crocheted statues of the horse, dog and pigeon commemorating the animals that were such an important part of the war effort. Other shops also have poppy displays for Remembrance Day on 11th November. The church had a lovely modern stained glass window but the highlight was the beautiful tapestry kneelers.

On the way home, we called in at the supermarket and ended up buying more than we expected and then had to struggle to carry it all home. It seemed a lot further when we had lots to carry. It gets dark so early now that daylight saving has finished and already it was dark by 5 pm.
