Hello from 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic
We are heading to Chipping Norton today as a halfway point between housesits. As we had all day we decided to call in to see Rachael’s studio in Morden, London. It was really nice to see Rachael and to see how she has set up her studio. It looks comfortable with different areas for different parts of her work.
From there we walked along the river Wandle to find somewhere to eat for lunch, near the Wandle Heritage Centre. It was a lovely day and we had a nice lunch together catching up on all our news. This area has quite a history as it was where William Morris worked at the Merton Abbey Mills. Also, Liberty had its Block Shop here in around 1910.
Late afternoon we drove the rest of the way to Chipping Norton. Our room at the end of the corridor was nice but seemed to be suffering from cluster flies. There were dead flies on the floor when we got there. We picked them up but they kept appearing. Finally, after we had kicked up 50 flies I went to the front desk to tell them about the problem. The lady immediately went up to the room, arranged for the concierge to clean the room and stray while we were having dinner. They gave us a docket for a free drink each.
Unfortunately they kept coming and finally, we turned the lights off so that we would not be bothered by them any more. It is a pity that they were fully booked so we were not able to change rooms.
