September 3 – Set up Day at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum

Hi from 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic

Today we set up the 1066 – A Medieval Mosaic exhibition at Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum (SOFO) while Mike Lord filmed us for his documentary. The set up went very smoothly as we had help from Duncan and Peggy, curators at the museum, to carry in the frames and the trailer could be backed up right to the door. There were no steps to climb which made set up a lot easier. We left the trailer at the museum last night which was just as well as the driveway to the Airbnb was very, very rough and we would not have been able to turn the trailer in so sharply off the main road. Duncan also helped with putting some of the stands together which was great as it meant we did not get too tired. Ian Inshaw, the SOFO director arrived late morning and took us out to lunch at the Star which was really nice of him. In the afternoon we finished the set up making a couple of changes which made things easier like putting the curtains over the stands before attaching the mosaic panels.

Today was by far the easiest set up we have done and we were not totally exhausted afterwards. Also, SOFO was closed for the day so we were not having to work around visitors. We finished just after 5 and we packed up the trailer and parked it again in the corner of the SOFO yard for the night.
